Position Summary:

Backfield in Motion, Inc. is seeking dynamic and committed Afterschool Classroom Teachers to lead small-group academic instruction in literacy and math for students in grades K–8. Teachers will be responsible for creating a structured, engaging, and supportive learning environment that fosters academic improvement, student confidence, and social-emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate daily instructional sessions focused on reading, writing, and math.

• Utilize provided curriculum resources and modify instruction to meet students' individual learning needs.

• Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior and classroom management.

• Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to the Chief Academic Officer.

• Communicate with program staff, volunteers, and families to support student success.

• Assist with program transitions and support enrichment activities as needed.

• Maintain accurate records of assessments and student participation.

• Uphold Backfield in Motion’s mission, values, and program goals.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in an education-related college program preferred.

• Experience teaching or tutoring elementary or middle school students, particularly in literacy and math.

• Knowledge of classroom management techniques and youth engagement strategies.

• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

• A passion for working with youth in underserved communities.

• Must pass a TBI fingerprint/background check.

• Must provide proof of education and a recent physical exam.

Work Schedule:

• Monday through Thursday, 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

• Occasional evening or weekend participation may be required for parent engagement events or training.

The Youth Program Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring that students are safe, engaged, and supported academically, socially, and emotionally. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about youth development, education, and creating a positive community impact.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the day-to-day operations of the afterschool program, including academic support, enrichment activities, and recreational sessions.

• Supervise students during all program activities and transitions to ensure a safe and structured environment.

• Implement lesson plans and activities aligned with Backfield in Motion’s educational and character-building goals.

• Serve as a positive role model and mentor for program participants.

• Support and guide volunteers, tutors, and program staff as directed by the Site Director.

• Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and school personnel regarding student progress and behavior.

• Track daily attendance and assist with reporting requirements and student data collection.

• Participate in staff training sessions, planning meetings, and ongoing professional development opportunities.

• Help organize and participate in family engagement events and special programming.

• Adhere to all Backfield in Motion and MNPS policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, or a related field preferred.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth in an educational or community setting.

• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

• Passion for working with underserved youth and fostering a positive learning environment.

• Ability to manage behavior and maintain control in a group setting.

• Must pass a TBI background check and provide proof of educational credentials.

• Please note that reliable transportation and punctuality are essential.

Position Summary

The Evening Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from BIM’s afterschool program sites. This individual plays a vital role in ensuring students arrive safely, maintaining a positive and supportive environment on the bus, and upholding all transportation safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate a passenger bus or van along assigned routes and schedules.

• Transport students to BIM afterschool program sites and return them home or to designated drop-off points.

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.

• Enforce safety rules and ensure students remain seated and follow proper conduct while on the bus.

• Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and route logs.

• Communicate effectively with site coordinators, parents, and staff regarding transportation needs.

• Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws, as well as BIM transportation policies.

Qualifications

• Valid Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement required.

• Clean driving record and ability to pass required background checks.

• Previous bus driving or commercial driving experience preferred.

• Strong commitment to student safety and well-being.

• Ability to manage student behavior positively and calmly.

• Dependable, punctual, and professional.
